The joy of movement and loving your body as stress management tool

Stress Relief movements

We tend to fight with our bodies. How many of us actually love and accept our bodies? Scolding it, feeling guilty about it, punishing it with grueling gym sessions, blaming it for all our mistakes and problems, are the ways we choose to experience and live with this essential physical part of ourselves. Wouldn't it be better for our stress levels and general wellbeing to rather love, accept and make peace with it, to move for the pure joy of physical movement, to appreciate this vehicle that helps us experience the world around us? Focusing on the body in meditative dance, in exuberant movements of joy, will lead to its own form of deep relaxation and satisfaction.

If you don't have the time to attend a formal movement class, choose to stay mobile and in shape through the use of exercise videos. This will allow you to maintain your fitness and improve your health on your own time, in your own home, in your own way.

Boredom is the archenemy of exercise. Doing the same workout over and over with no variation, repeating the same repetitive movement with the same muscles, can dampen your enthusiasm and accustom your body to movements that don't give you a full, integrative range of fitness, often leading to general and repetitive strain injuries. It also doesn't honour the fact that your physical and emotional needs are changing all the time. If you listen to these needs and work out accordingly, you'll feel better and look better.

In this age of quick fixes, listening to the language of your own body, isn't always easy. But slowing down is just as important as speeding up. Changing pace, changing focus, changing style will give you more - and let you enjoy the process of getting fit and staying fit. Try Neuromuscular Integrative Action - NIA for more information. It's a great form of fusion fitness, physical enjoyment and appreciation of your own body, mind, emotions and soul.
